URUGUAY
The Oriental Republic of Uruguay takes its name from its location, east or "orient" of the Rio Uruguay (Uruguay River). These geographic and other historical factors gave the country its name and as a result, Uruguayans are still called "Orientals", though it is obvious that Uruguay belongs to the occidental hemisphere. The name Uruguay comes from the "Guarani" and means "the river where the bird lives".
